Sharing Our Traditional Foods

As part of Refugee Week, Pendle New Neighbours held a special event at Nelson Library on Tuesday 17th June

The refugees and asylum seekers of Pendle came together to share some of the traditional dishes of their homelands.
More than 70 guests experienced a rich variety of traditional snacks, lovingly prepared by refugees and asylum seekers  from different parts of the world.  There were a range of Kurdish, Moroccan, Albanian, Pakistani, Syrian, Iraqi and Ukrainian foods. Each dish told a story of resilience, identity, and belonging.
We all came together to celebrate the cultures, histories, and flavours that make our community stronger—one bite at a time! England was represented too with a plateful of quintessential cucumber sandwiches!
Pendle New Neighbours trustees wish to thank the Lancashire County Council Resettlement Team for sponsoring the event, Nelson Library staff for their continued support, and all the refugees and asylum seekers who planned, organised and delivered this excellent event. A special thanks to all those who lovingly prepared such a wonderful feast of international food.
